April Point Resort and Spa is located on the coast of Quadra Island, a 10-minute water taxi ride from its sister resort, Painter’s Lodge in Campbell River. When I disembarked from the boat, I found the island to be quiet and serene; life runs at a slower pace here. April Point Resort and Spa offers the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation. The resort offers wildlife tours, a scenic wine and cheese cruise, kayak rentals, motor scooter rentals, bike rentals, and spa packages. You can also book a golf trip, hiking trip, or horseback riding near to the resort. I took a stroll down to the pebbled beach and watched the eagles soar through the sky followed by a relaxing massage at the charming Japanese-style spa.
The rooms at April Point are absolutely remarkable! I had access to the ocean within steps of my front door. I enjoyed sitting on my patio watching the sun as it set over the water. I loved my spacious master bedroom with French doors that opened into the living room. But the icing on the cake was retreating to my personal idea of luxury at the end of a long day of outdoor excursions – an enormous Jacuzzi soaker tub. This place was first class yet homey.
April Point prides itself on its premium world-class dining experience with west-coast flair. The restaurant uses the freshest of local ingredients and the master chef is creative with his dishes, changing the menu regularly. I especially enjoyed the sushi bar with its highly creative offering and fresh fish. The manager at April Point makes it a priority to have the finest dishes because he feels that visitors deserve the best when they come such a long way to vacation; food is a crucial part of the pleasure and enjoyment of vacationing. Dishes I recommend include the fried chicken (trust me, it is nothing like your fast food fried chicken), prime rib, any of the sushi rolls, the soups, and the salads.
If you are like me and can’t decide where to stay, then consider splitting your stay between Painter’s Lodge and April Point. This way you will get to experience both places in one visit. You are likely to want to return to these accommodations with family and friends when next in the area. The two spots are quite unique, each with a style of its own. Both provide great accommodations for those who love to fish. After my great fishing experience, I thought of a dear friend who would enjoy catching the “big one” here too. Before I left, I purchased a gift certificate for his birthday. He has the choice to use it on accommodations or on a fishing excursion, and the best thing is there is no expiration date. If you are thinking of buying a gift for someone special, I highly recommend buying an “adventure experience.” Give them a gift they will remember!
