ZIPTREK ECOTOURS

Naturally Fun and Sustainable

Zipline Ecotours

For this adventure I zipped from treetop to treetop on steel cables through a canopy of temperate old growth rainforest. Ziptrek Ecotours is a great company to go zip lining with because it is an eco-friendly firm that cares about the environment. This includes the construction of their platforms, usage of materials and operating independently from the power grid. What is interesting is that the company generates its own power when the zip lines are in use, and supplement this with solar power. As I walked along the boardwalk, I noticed the planks of wood were untreated and unstained Western Red Cedar. Using untreated wood requires less maintenance and ensures no toxins leech into the water system or into the forest floor. In addition, the wood can decompose back into the forest over time.

As I stepped off the elevated platform, fitted with a custom-designed climbing harness, I enjoyed incredible freedom of movement while zipping over the canyon and rain forest. I felt adrenalin rush through my body. Zip trekking proved to be an exhilarating adventure!

Zipline Ecotours

Each zip line moved me higher and was longer than the last! It became increasingly thrilling as the day went by! The first zip line I experienced was 130 feet high and stretched across Fitzsimmons Creek. During this ride, I spun backwards and couldn’t turn myself around because momentum was carrying me so fast. The second zip was 160 feet high and 1100 feet long. I enjoyed a 360-degree view as my harness gave me the flexibility to turn and move. The finale was a freestyle zip where I took off from the platform while hanging upside down! Only a custom designed harness would ever allow me to hang upside down. This was my favorite zip as it gave me an exhilarating upside down perspective. I felt the blood rush to my head as I watched the white water of Fitzsimmons Creek below. This was the ultimate adrenaline rush! Next time, I plan to take the 2000-foot zip line that takes you conveniently into Whistler Village. It descends steeply, causing riders to accelerate to a speed of 100 km/ per hour. Now that’s fast!

What’s great about Ziprek’s system is that guests do not have to worry about going too fast or controlling their speed during the ride because it is gravity fed. In addition, the system has a patented braking mechanism to ensure a smooth non-jerky stop as you reach the other side. Guides assist you when you launch and land on the platforms. This is a safe activity for the whole family.

Zip Trek Eco Tours is not only about providing an exhilarating adventure. The experience incorporates a strong educational component that showcases the eco-system of the area, forest growth and preservation and sustainability. Here’s to eco-friendly fun!

To sum up my adventure in a phrase: GREEN THRILL
