The scenic drive up to Whistler on the Sea to Sky Highway is spectacular. But traveling on board the Rocky Mountaineer Train is even more so. This 3-hour long excursion from North Vancouver to Whistler is a journey filled with scenic west coast vistas for travelers to enjoy.
Passengers choosing to travel by train may select the Glacier Dome or the Coast Classic experience. Both provide an excellent level of service. The Glacier Dome cars feature those extra touches that make the trip even more memorable as it features panoramic views through full-length dome windows, a full delicious hot breakfast with linen, and complimentary hot or cold beverages throughout the trip.
I enjoyed listening to detailed commentary describing the scenery and history of the various places we passed. Because this train travels along the side of the mountain, it offers guests a unique view that cannot be seen from a car’s vantage point. The highlight, or should I say “money shot” of the trip, was stopping on the railway bridge overlooking the falls of Cheakamus Canyon. I made my way through the train to the open-topped heritage observation car that gave an unrestricted view of the falls.
On the way home, a highlight of the trip was the afternoon tea that was served with delectable sandwiches, scones, Devon cream, strawberries and mouth watering pastries. This is the way to travel! No traffic to contend with, just sitting back and riding in comfort, enjoying the unbeatable first class service of the Rocky Mountaineer and the breathtaking scenery of coastal British Columbia.
To sum up my adventure in one word: SPECTACULAR
